Daisy Hill Aussies - Miniature & Toy Australian Shepherds in New Jersey
Male Vs. Female

I grew up with ONLY female dogs.  It was ingrained in me that they were cleaner, smarter, easier to train, less likely to fight, etc.  So, for years as an adult, I ONLY had female dogs.

Then about 8 years ago I fostered a very large collie/shepherd mix that was a male.  We became so attached to him that we just couldn't let him go and adopted him.  It taught me a very good lesson.  All males are not all bad and all females are not all good or "easier".

The key is to neuter your male pups by 6 months of age.  Then you really won't tell much of a difference between male or female.

I added this to the site because it has occured to me that a lot of people have the same prejudice I had growing up.

I read somewhere that the difference between a male and female dog is:

If you leave your comfy chair in front of the TV to go to the kitchen, your female will take your seat but your male will join you for the trip....funny but kind of describes their personality difference.

FYI, little aussies will generally follow you in a pack.  If you don't want company in the bathroom, then an aussie is probably not the right dog for you.  They are not obnoxious, they just want to lay by your feet no matter where your feet are!
